FAQ's

  • What does the session fee include?
Your session fees cover the time I spend before, during, and after the shoot crafting beautiful, personalized portraits for you. Session fees do not include any products (digital or otherwise.)
  • Do you sell digital files? Do you sell a-la-carte prints? Do you offer print packages?Yes, yes, and yes! Please contact me for specific details.
  • How can I order prints?Your images will be presented in an online gallery for easy ordering right from your home.
  • What if I’m not happy with my portraits?
I am my own worst critic! Chances are if you don’t like your portraits, I don’t either. Please let me know if you feel your images do not live up to what is represented in my online galleries. I will be happy to re-shoot at my discretion. Re-shoots will not be given for poor choices in wardrobe, hair, or makeup.
  • Why can’t I see all the images from my shoot?I feel that a big part of what you are paying for is my artistic eye, and this includes choosing which shots I show in your client gallery. I spend a lot of time selecting the best-of-the-best images for your gallery. I want you to have full confidence that if something isn’t included, it is usually because it’s just not as good as the other images. Some pictures have that “spark” and others don’t. All gallery images I present to you are fully edited.
  • Do you have a baby plan?
I sure do – I love to watch the little ones grow. My baby plans are super-flexible. Please contact me for details.
  • Do you have a studio?
I do have a wonderfully cozy natural light studio available for newborn and baby’s first year sessions. However, all other sessions are held on-location (outdoors, at an indoor location, or in your home.)
  • Do you offer weekend sessions?
I do offer limited weekend sessions (only 1-2 a month!) If you MUST have a weekend session, please book early. Once these limited weekend offerings are gone, they are gone for good. The rest of my sessions take place weekday mornings or evenings. Newborn sessions are scheduled only on weekdays.
  • How long will my session take?
I aim for my standard sessions to take about an hour, although I play by the client, not by the clock. Sometimes little clients need a few extra minutes to warm up to the camera, and that is completely fine. Newborns and Seniors take a little longer to photograph and must book an “extended” session.
  • Do you take all lifestyle pictures? No, I’ve found that even families that say they want “lifestyle” portraits still appreciate a few more traditional posed pictures. Once these are out of the way, we spend a majority of the session just playing – these unposed pictures are when I can usually best capture the spirit of your children. If you are looking for purely traditional posed portraits, I may not be the photographer for you.
  • How should I prepare my family for pictures?
First, prepare dad. Custom photo sessions take considerably longer than “mall” portraits. Let him know that interacting with his children – laughing, playing, and having fun, is the best way to get them to loosen up and show their personalities.
Secondly, please do not tell your kids to “say cheese” or “smile for the camera.” Kids tend to either freeze up or misbehave when pressure is applied. My goal is to make your portrait session a fun, relaxed experience for everyone.
Please be sure to plan your day around your portrait session, if at all possible. Lay out clothing ahead of time, make sure everyone is well-rested and fed. Give yourself plenty of time before your session so that you are not rushed.
  • What if my kid just will not cooperate?I have three little children. I know how they can be… it takes a LOT to phase me. If you find your child is not cooperating for pictures, please do not embarrass him or scold him. Portrait session runs more smoothly when the whims of the children are catered to just a bit.
If you and your child are both comfortable with the idea, I would be happy to take your kiddo for a little one-on-one camera time away from the parents… sometimes little kids who are difficult when mom and dad are nearby can be perfect angels when it’s just me and them. Once they have warmed up to me and my camera, I will bring them back for family pictures.
I will also sometimes use sweet treats or props to help coerce smiles from the little ones… please let me know ahead of time if you are opposed to candy or other goodies.
